Things I can do

Not what they've learned. What they can do.

Qiko is organised around capabilities, not subjects, levels or grades. This is the whole Make & Fix map — the six a child gets from Mission 01, and the ones that come after.

Every line is written the way a child would say it, and every one comes with the way they'd prove it. If we can't describe how a seven-year-old demonstrates something, it isn't a capability — it's a marketing word, and it doesn't go on this page.

Foundation

Before anything else — staying safe, knowing the tools, and measuring.

  • I can set up my workspace and work safely.

    Mission 01

    How they prove it — Glasses on before the first strike. Board stable. Free hand behind the strike line. Tools back in the tray between jobs.

  • I can measure and mark exactly where I want.

    How they prove it — Marks a given distance within 2mm, from the right end of the ruler, with a mark thin enough to aim at.

  • I can tell which material is right for the job.

    How they prove it — Given three materials and a job, picks one and can say why the other two would fail.

Make

Plan it, shape it, join it, test it.

  • I can drive a screw straight, and I know when to stop.

    How they prove it — Screw seated flush — not proud, not sunk past flush. Run a fingernail across it and you shouldn't catch.

  • I can hammer safely and accurately.

    How they prove it — Nail driven within about 10° of upright, head flush, no strike outside the target, free hand never in the strike path.

  • I can find a rough edge and make it smooth.

    How they prove it — Finds the rough section by touch with their eyes closed, sands it, and it passes the same eyes-closed test afterwards.

  • I can cut along a line I marked.

    How they prove it — Cut follows the marked line within 3mm along its length, with the workpiece held safely throughout.

  • I can join two pieces so they stay joined.

    How they prove it — The joint survives being picked up, carried and shaken. Nothing shifts.

    How they prove it — Finished object matches the plan's dimensions within 5mm and does the job the plan said it would.

Fix

Look, work out what's wrong, repair it, check it worked. Not a later level — it turns up in the middle of making.

    How they prove it — Given a fault nobody has named: notices it, says what's wrong, picks the right tool unprompted, repairs it, and tests the repair without being asked to.

    How they prove it — It works afterwards, and there are no parts left over.

    How they prove it — Names what was wrong with it, changes one thing, and can show the difference.

Kids should know how to make things, fix things, grow things and cook things.

We started with make and fix.

Grow

Soil, water, light, patience, and something you can eat at the end.

Cook

Heat, knives, timing, and a meal somebody else is grateful for.

Neither of these exists. There's no waitlist for them and no date — we're not building a second domain until the first one is proven to work on real children.
